才知道他原来有这种经历:
He arrived as a teenager, long and lanky and, for all that talent, still moving inside a kid''s body. Better gain weight, they told him. Get stronger, thicker, brawnier.

Nine seasons later, Kevin Garnett has a man''s body to match his man''s game. Look at his shoulders now, wide enough to open holes for a Winnebago. Those biceps, ripped and ready. Quadriceps and hamstrings that were forged by countless squats, usually with a load of iron (and, always, a franchise) on his back.

The Timberwolves got Garnett''s physical development underway as soon as he hit the NBA in 1995, but he only really got serious a few years back. In a playoff series against San Antonio, the Wolves'' All-Star tapped into his body for some reserves and found none. At the end of another grueling season, at the most demanding time of year, his tank was empty.

"I was cramping up during the game because I didn''t have anything to feed off of," Garnett said. "I was playing [heavy] minutes and overtime, and having to carry it all on my back and thinking I''m Superman. In reality, it was a whole ''nother thing. I was just feeding off muscle and cramping really bad. ... I said, ''I can''t go on like this.'' I got me a trainer, I got me a weight program."

Dedicated workouts, strength training, yoga and nutrition all are a part of Garnett''s regimen now. He is, by all accounts, the Wolves'' leader in the weight room as well as on the court. No one is likely to steer the BALCO investigation his way based on bulk, but Garnett is listed at 240 pounds these days, up nearly 25 pounds from his rookie season.

"Adding strength has helped him so much," coach Flip Saunders said. "Battling for good position, getting rebounds, all the stuff he does, he wouldn''t be able to do without gaining strength."

Here''s a look at how Garnett has matured since his rookie season:

MIND: Getting his mind in shape has been just as important as his body. "Yoga is a big part of my life," he said. "It helped me to put everything in balance, not just in basketball. It''s good for meditation, because I am an emotional player. Sometimes you have to draw back from that and keep your balance."

BACK AND SHOULDERS: Garnett didn''t really carry all those people in that adidas commercial -- they used ropes, a steel rig and other special effects -- but his upper body development is no accident. "KG''s matured as he''s gotten older," Saunders said, "but he has spent a lot of time in that weight room. Since his first or second year, he''s become a workaholic in there. I think, knock on wood, that''s also why he''s been able to keep injury free."

HEART: Everybody''s most important muscle, of course, is the one you can''t consciously flex. Garnett certifiably has the heart of an Olympian (back when Team USA was winning gold meals, too). "The biggest thing people have to understand about playing inside is, you can''t lead the league in rebounding without having a huge heart," Wolves forward Mark Madsen said. "There are 300-pound guys in this league who are soft. There are a lot of guys who can go in that weight room and lift a ton -- 280, 290 -- but when it comes time to get the ball, they don''t get the ball."

FLEXIBILITY: You see a lot of it at the health clubs now: CORE training. It involves balance, flexibility and strengthening the muscles of the trunk or torso, enabling an athlete to function more efficiently. "I''ve worked on everything," Garnett said, "from my arms to my core to my back to my legs, to stretching, to flexibility, to being more durable."

STOMACH: Garnett credits wiser eating habits (i.e., no junk food) with helping his overall fitness and getting the most out of his workouts. "Everybody has to have something to work off of, build off of," he said. "You''ve got to eat right."

CALVES: Saunders notes that Garnett, for such a slender guy, has big calves. "He''s always had big calves," the coach said. "It gives him a good base. That and your [butt] is what plants you there." Said Madsen: "Some guys, you go in there and you shove them, they go flying. You try to shove KG and he stays right where he is."

震撼的是他说他曾经打比赛的时候,因为经常肌肉抽搐。。。。

没想到我小时候看比赛的背后是他每场的肌肉抽搐。。太吓人了。。
